Abstract;Five species of Saxifraga were collected in northern part of Sichuan Province, China, and compared karyomorphologically. These five species had commonly the simple chromocenter type of the resting nuclei and the proximal type in the mitotic prophase chromosomes. The somatic chromosome numbers of 2n=22 and 23 for S. aff. melanocentra and 2n=16 for S. heleonastes were reported here for the first time. The somatic chromosome numbers of 2n=16 for S. egregia and S. aurantiaca and 2n=32 for S. hirculus verified the previous reports. Aneuploid was recognized in S. aff. melanocentra; the plant of 2n=22 showed pollen stainability of 95.82%, while that of 2n=23 showed pollen stainability of 36.57%. Saxifraga aff. melanocentra showed small sized chromosomes, while S. heleonastes, S. hirculus, S. egregia and S. aurantiaca showed large sized chromosomes. (author abst.)
