| Abstract;Comparative cytogenetic investigation of Tor khudree and Tor mussullah was undertaken using conventional staining and NOR banding. The diploid chromosome number was found to be 100 in both the species, however there was variation in karyomorphology with chromosome formula 18m+16sm+44st+22t and 22m+ 24sm+24st+30t in T. khudree and T. mussullah, respectively. The NORs were localized on 5 pairs of chromosomes in T. khudree and 2 pairs in T. mussullah. Variations in karyomorphology and NOR banding pattern can be used as cytogenetic markers for differentiating these two species and also to detect possible genetic introgression among these closely related species.
