| Abstract; The family Pimelodidae represents a very specious fish group but their phylogenetic relationships are still poorly known. In the present paper were cytogenetically analyzed five specimens of Zungaro zungaro. Was observed a diploid number of 56 chromosomes and the karyotype are constituted by 32 M, 6 SM, 8 ST and 10 A chromosomes, with a fundamental number (FN) of 102. The nucleolus organizer regions (NORs) detected by AgNO3 and CMA3 staining as well as fluorescence in situ hybridization with 18S rDNA probe, are located at terminal position on the short arms of a subtelocentric chromosome pair. All the applied techniques evidence a strong size heteromorphism between the NOR-bearing homologous chromosomes. (author abst.) |
