Abstract;Recently, a set of data described in XML has been used in various computer application fields due to XML standardization in W3C. Moreover, much research on XML databases, especially research on physical storage and manipulation methods in XML databases, has been done. However, it is much difficult to search a specified XML data set among a large amount of XML databases distributed in wide area networks. It is because the size of data to be searched is increased and there are some problems on system resources, load factors and so on. In this paper, we present a new XML document searching method using XML Tag Indexing, which is composed of a set of pairs of XML tags and XML data physical locations. This paper also describes the details of the method and some improvement in efficiency. We developed an XML document retrieval system using our method for evaluating the proposed method.
