Abstract;In this paper, we discuss techniques and applications of autonomous face recognition using wearable and ubiquitous cameras connected via networks. We introduce a concept of VizWear-Active and methods of real-time face tracking by VizWear-Active. It can actively and robustly understand the wearer and his or her environment by controlling a wearable active camera according to image processing and motion sensors. We also introduce a cooperative distributed registration system which efficiently register face images by cooperations of the ubiquitous cameras. Two principal cooperation mechanisms of the cooperative distributed registration system, a dynamic role assignment and a dynamic agency configuration, are presented. (author abst.)
