Abstract;Sjoegren's syndrome (SjS) is an autoimmune disease that mainly affects exocrine glands and usually presents as a persistent dryness due to functional impairment of the salivary and lacrimal glands. The histologic hallmark is a focal lymphocytic infiltration of the exocrine gland, and the spectrum of the disease extends from an organ-specific autoimmune disease (autoimmune exocrinopathy) to a systemic process (central nervous system involvement). Considering the developmental, functional and pathologic similarities of the hepato-pancreatic, thyroidal and salivary gland, the association of these diseases and SjS may have not only clinical but also etiopathogenic significance.
