| Abstract;Synchrotron radiation (SR), theoretically predicted in 1950, was firstly used for materials science in 1970's. Since the appearance of the third generation SR in the latter of 1990's, SR has been extensively applied to various research fields such as materials science, life science, earth science, medical diagnostics and industrial application to produce very attractive results. Application to high pressure study is especially effective because the geometrical limitation of high pressure apparatus can be largely reduced by using intense and high energy SR. Many interesting result have been appeared. Not only precise determination of lattice constants or atomic positions, but also charge density distribution can be obtained by X-ray diffraction. Electronic and magnetic information under high pressure are also available. In this article, recent topics of SR research and high pressure activities using SR are briefly introduced. (author abst.) |
