Abstract; From optical studies, it is reported that deuterium exhibits three solid phases. The crystal structure of only phase I is now determined to be hcp with the free rotation of molecules. We performed powder x-ray diffraction experiments of solid deuterium at high pressures and low temperature. The centre of each molecule in phase II was concluded to be still on the hcp lattice. On the other hand, diffusion amount of hydrogen/deuterium in rhenium metal was also estimated from the measurements of lattice constants of Re-H/D system. (author abst.)
