| Abstract;Laser-excited luminescence (fluorescence) in synthetic diamond crystals has been examined. The luminescence intensities of diamonds containing impurities of less than 5 ppm are very weak. The luminescence intensities increase with increasing the concentration of nitrogen and nickel impurities. The high purity synthetic type IIa diamond without containing any impurities has almost no luminescence. The low luminescence of the synthetic type IIa diamond permits us to measure Raman spectra of samples or weak Ruby signals under high pressure precisely using this synthetic diamond for high-pressure anvils.
