Abstract; This paper describes the influence of processing silica-filled liquid epoxy resins on the impregnation behavior of large-scale epoxy impregnated coils. Intensive mixing of the liquid resins decreases the maximum viscosity due to proper wetting of the inorganic fillers by the matrix material. Such highly homogenous mixtures promote good impregnation upon casting. As a consequence of good impregnation, the electrical properties of the apparatus are improved. In this case, maximum partial discharge inception voltages could be achieved. (author abst.)
