Abstract;According to Fermi's .BETA.-decay theory, the life time of a .BETA.-decay nuclide is inversely proportional to the electron density at the position of the nucleus. It was attempted to change the half-lives of .BETA.-decay nuclides by stripping orbital electrons by means of X-ray irradiation at the BL08W line of SPring-8. The deduced half-life values were 39.30.+-.0.28 hours and 60.49.+-.0.27 hours for 140La and 198Au, respectively. The obtained half-lives are 3-5% smaller than the literature values as obtained in the preliminary work. (author abst.)
