Abstract;The reaction of halogen-substituted silacyclopropene with triethylsilyl cation has been investigated. The expected halogen abstraction by triethylsilyl cation did not take place. Alternatively, the silacyclopropene underwent a methyl group elimination followed by a ringexpansion to give the unusual halogen-bridged silylcation. The structure, formation mechanism and reactivity of this cation will also be discussed. (author abst.)
