Abstract; We have developed new methods for silyllithium synthesis based on the cleavage of a silicon-tellurium bond in tellurosilanes and succeeded to prepare a tellurium-substituted silyllithium for the first time. First, the tellurium-lithium exchange reaction of di(phenyltelluro)dimesitylsilane with phenyllithium(2.2mol amounts) in THF at 223K afforded (phenyltelluro)dimesitylsilyllithium in 80% yield. Second, the reductive cleavage of the silicon-tellurium bond of the same ditellurosilane with lithium naphthalenide(3.0mol amounts) in THF at 223K gave the same silyllithium compound in 73% yield. The generality of these methods and the chemistry of [(telluro)silyl]lithium will be reported. (author abst.)
