| Abstract; The aim of this study was to compare the reactivity of sensory gating system to the cold pressor test, as acute physical stress, in the patients with depression and these in the normal control. We recorded event-related magnetic response(P50 habituation and mismatch negativity) before and after the cold pressor test. The cold pressor test diminished P50 auditory gating in both normal control and the patients with depression. MMN was augmented by the cold pressor test in the normal control, but not in the patients with depression. This attenuated reactivity to the acute stress might be the electrophysiological representation of the failure in stress adaptation in the patients with depression. (author abst.) |
