Abstract; This paper discusses a software development methodology for a network-oriented manufacturing system with a high extensibility. The core technology for software development is based on CORBA(Common Object Request Broker Architecture) to provide a network-coriented manufacturing system configurability, extensibility and portability. To standardize API(Application Programming Interface) using IDL(Interface Definition Language) as one of CORBA specifications wraps the differences between operating systems and programming languages on the controllers. Therefore, open-architecture-CNC's from different vendors composing the manufacturing system can be controlled by a common HMI(Human Machine Interface). (author abst.)
