Abstract;Shinjuku City is a leading center of consumer goods trade, based at the largest railroad terminal in Japan. Also known for its international ties, both cultural and commercial. Shiniuku aims to build itself into a well organized, recycle-oriented society based upon consistent circulation of its resources. By so doing, Shinjuku will become a social ly sound, self-sufficient haven, fit for the perpetual well-being of its people. But, so far, what approach has Shinjuku been making toward this goal? I will attempt to disclose the perspective and the possibilities that lie ahead of the massive cooperative effort under way through the city's policy on environment, the business enterpriser unions, organized groups, residents at large, and each of the individual enterprisers. I shall try to clarify what measures are being taken to create a lasting realm of coexistence between nature and human society. (author abst.)
