Abstract;Sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase is a representative member of P-type ATPases. It is an integral membrane protein of Mr 110k. Its structure with bound Ca2+ was solved by X-ray crystallography at 2.6.ANGS. resolution and reported previously. We recently succeeded in the crystallisation of the enzyme in the absence of Ca2+ and that of an analogue of the phosphorylated state and solved the structure by molecular repracement methods. Comparison of the atomic models for the three physiological states leads us to propose a structural model for the active ion transport by P-type ATPases. (author abst.)
