Abstract;Recently, photonic networks based on novel functional devices and materials have been required remarkably to respond to explosive growth of the internet and new IT services such as electronic commerce, ITS and broadcasting. This paper introduces the photonic devices and materials developed in NTT Photonics Laboratories, which have been used as key components in the construction of high-speed and large-capacity optical fiber communication networks. Furthermore, the appliance for the global market requirement of these devices and materials will be mentioned. (author abst.)
