Abstract;Usually, neurologists paid little attention to hyperlipidemia. Conversely, researchers in the field of hyperlipidemia are often cardiologist and had little interests in stroke. So, even if lipid profile was investigated with respect to stroke, vast majority of studies in the past did not take into consideration of the clinical picture of stroke such as types and clinical or etiological subtypes. Recently, there is increasing evidences about the role of HDL-cholesterol in ischemic stroke. In this review, we overviewed the role of HDL-cholesterol in stroke based on evidence-based approach by using the classification of the Japan Joint Committee on Guidelines for the Management of Stroke(Chairman: Yukito Shinohara, Secretariat:Masao Nagayama). From this approach, it has become clear of the needs for detailed consideration of clinical picture along with highly-evidenced clinical study with each stroke(sub-)types as primary endpoint.
