Abstract; The encephalitis and the meningitis are generic name of diffusive inflammatory disease of central nervous system. The meningitis is defined as the case in which there is the inflammation in the meninx and the encephalitis is defined as the case in which there is a lesion in the cerebral parenchyma, but the differentiation of both is difficult, and it is often supposed that the both can be made simultaneously. The examination plan includes : 1) Bacterial, viral, or other inflammatory diseases, 2) Grasping of seriousness and complications, 3) Decision of therapy effect and follow-up. The cerebrospinal fluid picking should be carried out after confirming that there are no space occupying lesion or intracranial pressure rise, when encephalitis and meningitis are suspected in a cerebrospinal fluid opinion. The cerebrospinal fluid picking should be held within 10ml in order to prevent the bowing low operculum internal pressure syndrome. The rise of the pressure, property, increase of cell number and the composition, protein, albumin and IgM, IgG, sugar, chlorine ion are measured for the cerebrospinal fluid opinion.
