Abstract;Recent work with metal-complex salts of fluorocarboranes, fluoroboranes, fluoro-aminoboranes, and four-coordinate borates and aluminates with polyfluoroalkoxide and polyfluorodialkoxide substituents will be presented, including the synthesis of several new (unpublished) fluoroanions. The applications will include the isolation of novel nonclassical metal-carbonyl cations, catalysis, and the study of new electrolytes for lithium batteries. The lecture will also include a discussion of some of the fundamental principles related to the coordination of weakly basic C-F and B-F bonds to metal ions. (author abst.)
