| Abstract;Reperfusion therapy for ischemic stroke patients is developing and the focus of clinical concern. The NINDS and PROACT II study group have reported intravenous or local intra-arterial fibrinolysis (LIF) can improve 3-month clinical outcome. Because of recent advance of microcatheter technique, intra- and extra-cranial angioplasty and stenting can he performed. LIF alone, angioplasty alone or combination of LIF and angioplasty are currently available modalities of endovascular treatment. Japanese ministry of health, labor and welfare has approved LIF in April 2002 and the door for the epoch of ischemic stroke treatment has been opened. Indication, safety and effectiveness of endovascular treatment for ischemic stroke and how-to-do-it are summarized. (author abst.) |
