Abstract;Cationic metal carbonyl catalysts, which has positive charge on metal, were prepared from the reaction of CO and metal ions such as Cu+, Ag+, Au+, pd+ and Pt+ in strong acids. The CO stretching frequencies of cationic metal complexes were observed at higher wave number (2167-2208cm-1) comparing to free CO (2143cm-1). This suggest that M-C bond was mainly formed by a dative bond of CO, and .PI. back donation is negligibly small. tert-Carboxylic acids were prepared in high yield by the carbonylation of olefins and alccohols at room temperarure and atmosphereic pressure of CO in the presence of cationic metal carbonyl catalysts.
