Abstract; One of the hexafluoropropene trimers was converted into a highly branched perfluoro-2,4-dimethyl-3-isopropyl-2-pentene in high yield by using trifluoromethyl trimethyl-silane. Direct fluorination of this olefin gave perfluoro-2,4-dimethyl-3-isopropyl-2-pentyl radical in almost quantitative yield. This radical was found to be persistent under 100% F2 atmosphere. The structure of the radical was confirmed by ESR. (author abst.)
