| Abstract;Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes(SWNTs) have attracted considerable interest because of their unique physical, chemical, and mechanical properties. SWNTs are expected to be useful in many different fields, such as electrical devices, and capacitors. However, in order to obtain the optimal performance of SWNTs in various applications, high purity SWNTs are required. In this study, SWNTs prepared by arc discharge method were fluorinated at temperatures 100.DEG.C. for 10h. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) was used to investigate changes in the chemical nature of their surfaces. Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM) were used to investigate changes of tube structure before and after fluorination. The dispertion property measurements of fluorinated SWNTs have been studied. Sonicating the suspension produced a metastable solution and the suspension was stable for a couple of days. The concentration of the suspension was approximately 3.7*10-3wt%. (author abst.) |
