Abstract;Sumitomo Electric has developed bidirectional 1.3/1.55-.MU.m optical transceiver module, which is compliant with optical Ethernet that is operative at transmission rate of up to 1.25Gbps. Using polymer straight waveguide capable of cost-reduction, highly reliable packaging is realized at lower cost by the newly developed subpackage and the transfer mold package structure. At transmission characteristic of 125Mbps (mega bit per second), optical fiber output -10dBm and receiver sensitivity under duplex operation mode -37dBm@BER(bit error ratio)=10-10 can be obtained. The structure is the same even at the transfer rate of 1.25Gbps, and by replacing it with the preamplifier for 1.25Gbps, receiver sensitivity -22.5dBm@BER=10-12 was obtained under duplex operation mode. Sumitomo Electric is expecting that this module will be used widely for bidirectional optical communications of Ethernet. (author abst.)
