| Abstract; In this paper, a 3D machining and finishing system is presented for new designed furniture. The proposed system has two main processes. One is a 3D machining process using a 5-axis NC machine tool with a tilting head. The other is a finishing process using a force controlled robot sander. The 5-axis NC machine tool produces wooden parts which are designed by 3D CAD in advance. A proposed post-processor straightforwardly generates NC data for the 5-axis NC machine tool from cutter location (CL) data. The CL data, which are calculated by main processor of CAM, are the basic cutter path along the model's curved surface. The another proposed robot sander softly finishes the wooden part after NC machining without complicated teaching process. The effectiveness and promise of the proposed system have been proved by actual machining and sanding tests. (author abst.) |
