| Abstract; Two fish species of the genus Imparfinis were cytogenetically analyzed. Imparfinis piperatus cytotype A showed 2n=58 chromosomes, with 32 of them being metacentrics(M) and 26 submetacentrics(SM); cytotype B displayed 26M, 22SM, 8 subtelocentrics(ST), and 2 acrocentrics(A). Both karyotypes presented interstitial nucleolar organizer regions(NORs) located on the long arms of the first chromosome pair, a metacentric pair. Imparfinis cf. piperatus, shows 2n=56 chromosomes(22M, 26SM, 4ST, and 4A) and interstitial NORs on the long arm of chromosome pair 28, an acrocentric pair. Small differences were observed in the pattern of C-band positive heterochromatin distribution between the species analyzed, with a prevalence of pericentromeric and telomeric segments. The karyotypic differences suggest that a taxonomic revision of the genus Imparfinis is necessary. (author abst.) |
