| Abstract; For the purpose of examining the efficacy and safety of valaciclovir hydrochloride (VACV) tablet 500 mg twice daily treatment, a multi-center, unmasked, uncontrolled trial was performed in 81 patients with genital herpes. 1) Median times to lesion healing that is the primary efficacy endpoints were 8 days and 5 days, in first-episode and recurrent genital herpes, respectively. Lesion healing was observed in 61.5% of recurrent genital herpes patients on the 5th day. 2) The safety rates (proportion of cases evaluated as 'no problem') were 92.9% (13/14 cases) and 89.3% (50/56 cases), in first-episode and recurrent genital herpes, respectively. 3) The incidences of adverse reaction were 7.1% (1/14 cases) and 9.1% (5/55 cases), in first-episode and recurrent genital herpes, respectively. The clinical efficacy of VACV tablet 500mg twice daily in the treatment of first-episode and recurrent genital herpes was confirmed in comparison of the above result with the reports of clinical trials with symptomatic therapy, aciclovir or VACV. VACV provides benefit to patients with genital herpes clinically as it is effective and well-tolarated. (author abst.) |
