Abstract; This paper deals with the development of wrist-watch type equipment which can detect and distinguish human motion. The reason why the wrist-watch type is selected, is that it is suitable for wearing and is easy to operate. Results from several experiments confirmed that it is possible to distinguish the characteristics of motion by analyzing one dimensional acceleration, one axis angular rate, and the periodic motion at the wrist. Wrist-watch type equipment has been designed and made. This equipment provides the functions to detect intensity and pattern of human motion. It is able to distinguish measured data into 10 varieties, count the number of steps and calculate calorie consumption by analyzing measured data. In addition, it can be worn on the wrist and is easy to operate, just like ordinary wrist-watches. (author abst.)
