Abstract; To carry out animation distribution to multiple points on internets, it is necessary to carry out rate control corresponding to multicast. In this paper, was proposed layered multicast rate control using error correction codes by focussing to animation quality on their regeneration. At first, a problem that packet loss formed by congestion made regeneration quality of animation extremely inferior when transmitting high quality animation by using the conventional method, was pointed out. On the other hand, here was proposed a method to carry out rate controls under keeping quality of animation by combining parities formed by error correction codes with rate controls to use them. By using simulation, it was shown that the proposed method practiced rate control escaping quality deterioration based on congestion. And, by elucidating block sizes of optimum error correction codes for control delay, packet loss ratio and transmission efficiency on system scale and transmission efficiency on layered increasing ratio were quantitatively evaluated. Furthermore, a layered coding method of an element technology was elucidated, to investigate optimum error correction code for realtime processing using software and its mounting possibility.
