Abstract;Mulberry Leaves Concentrated Dried Tablet (MLCDT) suppressed postprandial hyperglycemia and HbA1C levels in diabetic patients. Its mechanism is suspected due to inhibition of intestinal .ALPHA.-glucosidase activity, and not to be associated with insluin serection. No notable side effects such as hypoglycemia and abdominal fullness were observed. MLCDT may be useful drug for prevention and treatment of postprandial hyperglycemia, and is expected to possibly inhibit aggravation of diabetes mellitus due to postprandial hyperglycemia and progression to complication. It is, moreover, expected that combination therapy with MLCDT and Onion Concentrated Dried Tablet (OCDT) may be more effective due to different hypoglycemic action. (author abst.)
