Abstract;Global eddy-resolving simulation is one of the most challenging computational problems of oceanography. At present, a few pilot studies are going on in the U.S. and U.K. However, due to insufficient computational power, reported time integration lengths do not reach a physically meaningful spin-up time (several decades) for wind-driven circulations. Here we report that the Earth Simulator has enabled us to accomplish sufficiently long time integration in less than half a month. (author abst.)
