Abstract;Sulfoglycolipids represent all acidic glycolipids with sulfate groups bound to sugar chains, and are a constituent of mammalian cell membranes. They are synthesized by sulfotransferase specifically existing in Golgi bodies. Until now their various physiological functions have been estimated from their specific tissue distribution, and binding properties with adhesive molecules. Today their true physiological functions have been elucidated by gene cloning and gene targeting of sulfotransferase, author wishes to explain molecular mechanisms mediated by sulfoglycolipids.
