Abstract;Accessory breast cancer is a rare type breast cancer. In this paper, we report a case of accessory breast cancer arising in the left axilla. A 71-year-old woman was seen at the hospital because of left axillary subcutaneous tumor. On physical examination, we found a flatly and slightly protruded subcutaneous tumor with a dark-brown surface and the diameter of 2cm in the left axilla. The tumor was fixed to the skin and was elastic hard. No tumor was palpable in the left breast and the left axillary lymph nodes were palpated. Adenocarcinoma was diagnosed on cytodiagnosis. A biopsy disclosed solid tubular adenocarcinoma surrounded by normal ductal tissues. Accessory breast cancer was strongly suspected, but a possibility of communication with the proper mammary tissue could not be ruled out. Consequently, a left modified radical mastectomy and axillary lymph node dissection were performed. An exploration of the resected material showed no communication between the axillary tumor and mammary duct. Accessory breast cancer of the axilla was definitely diagnosed. This paper also presents an analysis of a total of 90 cases of the disease seen in the Japanese literature, including this case. (author abst.)
