| Abstract;A 52-year-old woman screened for breast cancer with palpation was seen at the hospital because of a mass in the B area of the left breast. As mammograms, ultrasound and CT revealed another two tumors in the both breasts, bilateral modified radical mastectomies were performed. Microscopic - findings revealed an 1.1 * 1.0cm solid tubular carcinoma in the B area of the left breast, a 3.0 * 2.2cm papillotubular carcinoma in the C area of the left breast, and a 4.5 * 4.0cm invasive lobular carcinoma in the E area of the right breast. Although only one tumor was detected by palpation in breast cancer screening, all three tumors, classified as Categories 4 or more, were detected by mammograms. As this case suggests, mammography is more useful than palpation for breast cancer screening. (author abst.) |
