Abstract;A 51-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of abdominal pain after he ate raw fishes and shells. With a diagnosis of acute abdomen with ileus symptoms, a partial excision of the small intestine was performed under a laparotomy. On the excised material, we confirmed a larva of the family Anisakidae, of which head part stuck into the intestinal mucosa. Small bowel anisakiasis was difinitely diagnosed. In the diagnosis of acute abdomen with ileus synptoms, small bowel anisakiasis must be kept in mind as a differential diagnosis, if the patient's general condition is favorable compared to the severity of abdominal pain and an abdominal ultrasonography shows ascites and localized thickening of the intestinal wall. And minute questioning whether the patient has eaten raw marine fishes and shells is important. (author abst.)
