| Abstract;Locally advanced colorectal cancer commonly involves the adjacent organs, such as the abdominal wall, small bowel, bladder, uterus, vagina, ovary and fallopian tube. But, colon cancer involving the kidney is relatively uncommon. We report a case of cancer of the descending colon involving the left kidney, which was en bloc resected. A 51-year-old woman was referred to the hospital because of fever elevation and a left renal tumor on ultrasonography. Close examinations revealed a circular tumor in the descending colon. With the diagnosis of descending colon cancer involving the left kidney, we performed a left hemicolectomy with D3 lymphadenectomy, combined with a resection of the left kidney. A pathologic report revealed moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma in the both organs. Various series reported the good survival after curative operation in patients with colorectal cancer with invasion into the adjacent organs. We conclude that the en bloc resection with the involved organs improves the survival in this patient group. (author abst.) |
