| Abstract; We report two cases of hepatic metastasis of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) successfully treated by hepatectomy. (Case 1); A 51-year-old man undergone a high anterior resection for rectal leiomyosarcoma nine years earlier was pointed out having a hepatic tumor, and underwent a hepatic resection (S5 + S6). Pathological diagnosis was hepatic metastasis from rectal GIST. No recurrence has occurred 34 months after the second operation. (Case 2); A 56-year-old man undergone a distal gastrectomy for gastric leiomyosarcoma one year earlier was pointed out having a hepatic tumor and underwent a hepatic resection (S5). Pathological diagnosis was hepatic metastasis from gastric GIST. One year after the second operation, multiple recurrent tumors were found on the residual liver and treated with a partial hepatectomy and radiofrequency thermal ablation therapy (RFA). Seven months after the third operation, another three recurrent tumors of the liver remnant were also treated with RFA percutaneously. One year after the last treatment, he is sill alive having multiple bone metastasis. It is thought that careful follow up would be mandatory for patients with GIST because biological characteristics of GIST are being clarified. (author abst.) |
