Abstract; The replacement of solder used in our electric and electronic products to lead-free solder is being achieved through the use of a unique certification system for checking the quality on both sides of the product and manufacturing process. The intended purpose is to assume our social responsibility of totally eliminating lead-based solder, and continue to ensure customer satisfaction through product quality. One of the creative features of this activity is that eachproduct group took part in experimenting with its own product type and circuit form while the corporate engineering group performs quality analysis/assessment and production process analysis etc for building a shared database and creating common manuals. Another feature is to setup an internal certification and audit system for establishing an objective quality assurance and control process. In addition, both tasks above are implemented in two steps, first led by the corporate group and then shifting the activity to product groups for gradual and efficient penetration into each factory and process. The activity is still being implemented, but part of the approach will be introduced here. (author abst.)
