| Abstract; This report describes our developed visual display system for the locomotion control of a Humanoid Robot that is located at a remote site. The system displays images around the robot when an operator controls the robot's locomotion from the system's cockpit, thus enabling the operator to feel the sense of presence at the robot's site. From the viewpoint of sense of presence, we consider the following three factors as important: A wide field of view, binocular stereoscopic display and real-time processing. In order to satisfy these factors, we design the system by considering the similarity between the camera system capturing the images around the robot and the display system representing the captured images. In other words, the designed system is such that the cameras and displays are connected on a one-to-one relationship and each camera's filed of view is equal to that of each display. We confirmed the validity of our design through several experimental examples. (author abst.) |
