Abstract;Authors have succeeded in projecting high-resolution scanning tunneling microscope (STM) image of DNA molecular structure by using originally developed sample fixation method together with STM which has the potential of directly observing each atom on the sample surface in real space. They have also imaged the molecular structure of double helix DNA and its individual nucleotides, and could demonstrate satisfactorily by eye-sight that a pair of base sequence of a single-strand DNA constituting of a double strand DNA is complementary each other as Watson and Crick predicted. This article describes also researches on visualization of DNA molecular structure done by other microscopic observations but STM, introduces main research results obtained by authors, and tries to give future perspectives of STM studies.
