| Abstract;Fluorescein angiogrphy was performed in 54 eyes of 28 cases of diabetic retinopathy. Particular attention was paid to the temporal raphe area as related to overall fundus findings. The series comprised simple retinopathy 10 cases, preproliferative 10 cases and proliferative 8 cases. Capillary nonperfusion in the raphe area was absent in 20 eyes. In these 20 eyes, capillary nonperfusion elsewhere was present in 3 eyes involving one quadrant only. There was no eye with neovascularization. Out of 34 eyes with capillary nonperfusion in the raphe area, capillary nonperfusion elsewhere was present in 10 eyes involving two quadrants, 4 eyes involving 3 quadrants, and 20 eyes involving 4 quadrants. Neovascularization was present in 12 of the 34 eyes. Above findings show that the presence of capillary nonperfusion in the temporal raphe area is positively related to the severity of diabetic retinopathy. (author abst.) |
