Abstract;Translation system of animal mitochondria furnishes remarkable characteristics that are not seen in usual systems such as nonuniversal cryptogram, transformed tRNA, extremely reduced RNA, and ribosome abundantly filled with protein to complement them. Its molecule-based elucidation is noted as it gives powerful hints to understand translation system and to explore origin of life and evolution in consequence. This article introduces recent topics such as decoding transformed tRNA by in vitro translation system, relationship between tRNA with new modified bases including taurin and mitochondrial diseases, exchangeability between translation factor and ribosome in E. coli and its mitochondria, novel EF-Tu from nematodes, and simple tRNA recognition by aminoacyl-tRNA-synthase, and views future research progress in this field.
