Abstract;Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) has demonstrated that stress modulates immune functions in animals and humans through the activations of sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. This paper illustrates the basic aspects of PNI, which do not include the research related with diseases themselves but include the most popular evidences and important knowledge derived from animal and human studies that have shown a link between stress and immune functions, focusing on the durations and types of stressors and the buffering factors that determine the magnitude and direction of stress-induced immune changes.
