Abstract;A male patient with atrial fibrillation associated with ischemic heart disease developed tachycardia (ventricular rate >150/min) during the reconstruction of ventriculoperitneal shunt under isoflurane-N2O/O2 anesthesia. Intravenous administration of a short acting .BETA.1 selective adrenergic receptor antagonist, landiolol (an initial infusion of 0.125 mg/kg for one minute, followed by 0.04 mg/kg/min for 10 min), controlled heart rate within 5 min after administration with minimal reduction in blood pressure. Landiolol is useful in the heart rate control in patient with ischemic heart disease. (author abst.)
