| Abstract;A study was conducted to assess the efficacy and usefulness of pranlukast in the treatment of allergic rhinitis. The number of patients was 12 (age 12-72, 5 males and 7 females). They were sent out questionnaires about symptoms of allergic rhinitis and the quality of life at first medical examination and after a four-week treatment with 450 mg/day of pranlukast. Three major symptoms of allergic rhinitis (sneezing, nasal secretion, and nasal obstruction) had tendency to be improved. Especially, nasal obstruction was significantly improved in statistics. Furthermore, subjective sense of smell was significantly improved, decreasing nasal oobstruction. These treatment efficacy was more apparent in severer cases. No side effects were observed. In results, pranlukast improves quality of life of a patient with allergic rhinitis, relieving nasal obstruction and smell disorder. (author abst.) |
