Abstract; In some acute febrile diseases such as influenza, chills are not very severe, but the patients complain of feeling hot, and the face and pharynx become red. This condition is usually attributed to "Jitsunetsu". This type of febrile response is attributed to excessive response to a pathogen and "Seinetsuzai" [drugs which cool the body] are often prescribed for the treatment. In this study, we treated patients with acute febrile illnesses exhibiting "Jitsunetsu" with Gin-gyou-san kyo Tousi, Keigai ka Banrankon, Ogon, Oren. Eleven patients with high fever and symptoms of "Jitsunetsu" who consulted the Aki Pediatric Clinic during the 10 days between February 6 and February 16, 1998 were examined. After oral administration of the above-described drugs, the fever declined to 37.5.DEG.C. or lower after an average of 0.95 days. Since the patients had high fever for an average of 3 days before the start of treatment, the time taken for the fever to resolve can be regarded as short. Symptoms of cough, nasal discharge and arthralgia also improved. (author abst.)
