Abstract;We are developing a Laser Altimeter called LALT, which will be loaded in a lunar orbit satellite SELENE to create the detailed geographical map of the moon. We firstly developed an engineering model of the laser oscillator and then a prototype model for the LALT. We completed the evaluation of the prototype model by March, 2002 to confirm that the laser altimeter had the features of the maximum ranging distance 150km, ranging resolution 1m, and ranging accuracy 5m. Now we have completed the design of the flight model for LALT and manufacturing it. (author abst.)
