| Abstract;Chronic hepatitis C patients of serogroup 1 with higher viral load (HCV-RNA > 1.0 Meq/mL) in pretreatment have been considered lower responders to interferon (IFN) therapies, considering about the comparably lower sustained virological response (SVR) rate to IFN treatment The SVR rate is expected to be improved by combination therapy of ribavirin with IFN, however the total response rate will be estimated no more than 50%. In our two-step interferon rebound therapy (TIRT), the second-step IFN therapy will be taken to the patients showing temporary viral load burst followed by the viral decrease, after the completion of the first-step IFN therapy. The SVR rate is expected to over 50%, if combination therapy is employed for the second-step in TIRT. TIRT is highly useful for the treatment of refractory chronic hepatitis C. (author abst.) |
